TAP
Tap is a great choice for promoting co-ordination, a sense of rhythm and syncopation and for strengthening and loosening foot, ankle and leg muscles. In Tap classes students will learn and practice steps first and will quickly progress onto learning routines of varying lengths and to many different styles of music from Jazz, Show-tunes and Pop. Tap is a very satisfying choice for all age groups. For younger pupils great delight is found from being able to dance and make noise at the same time. With more advanced pupils being able to achieve and perform technically complex steps and rhythms is extremely satisfying.
MODERN
Modern is a very structured form of dancing. It gives the student a real feel of strength and is very popular due to its ability to adapt, develop and evolve with the changing fashion in dance. Through a carefully planned and well-tried examination syllabus, which combines modern dance, jazz and other dance styles, the students are trained to become disciplined and versatile dancers who have a professional attitude towards dance. For example: Senior students who have attended Modern throughout their youth are able to control the movements they do at speed, significantly more than students who have not, due to this initial training
BALLET
Ballet is the foundation of all good dancers, it gives strength, poise, turnout and it is easy to spot a dancer who has had ballet training against one who has not.
Ballet is great for perpetuating style, grace, good posture and strength. It is also great for teaching self-discipline and pride in appearance. Ballet begins with barre work which concentrates on developing good placing and on developing the technique needed for steps in the centre. Once in the centre we perform arm exercises (port de bras) adage - slow sustained movements like chasses, arabesques and attitudes, corner work - turns and travelling steps and allegro - which is all the jumps associated with ballet.
NURSERY
For younger students to learn the basics of most dance genres so they can eventually decide which other classes they want to continue with. We usually theme the lessons for example Princess', Soldiers, fairies and nursery rhymes to encourage their imagination and creativity. There is singing and the acting out of stories, as well as learning to dance together with a partner or as a group.
STREET JAZZ
There are many different styles of Jazz. At Frogmore Dance School we teach Street style and Theatre / Contemporary Jazz.
Street Jazz basically teaches moves and develops routines similar to those you would see in pop videos and on shows like Top of the Pops, X Factor, MTV and any other music programme. The routines draw inspiration from current chart music and from street dance, hence it is a very popular style with young people.
JAZZ
Theatre Jazz develops routines to songs from hit west end shows. As well as concentrating on developing good technique in steps such as kicks and turns we also work with props such as hats and canes. Contemporary Jazz is a slower type of Jazz with styled lines and a strong feeling to it. We work on developing technique and strength to maintain the feeling of suspence and relaxation.
All of our jazz classes commence with a warm-up and then we work on steps such as turns, spins, kicks and leaps based on the demands of the routines we are learning, before teaching routines.
CHEERLEADING
Cheerleading is a fun, loud class that really encourages students to work as a team. They practice cheers, chants, dances and gymnastic movements all with Pom Pom's. They will eventually join together as a cheerleading team and go and support their local clubs. Its a great way to build confidence in themselves and confidence to perform infront of large crowds.
FREESTYLE (Disco)
IDTA Freestyle/Disco is the trendiest and most popular form of dance in the UK today. In involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of different arm and hand actions. The music normally is very fast and 'beaty' and allowing dancers of all ages to use freedom of expression to enhance their style.
DANCE-NASTICS
A relatively new class to Frogmore but extremely popular. The students practice dancing and gymnastic movements together to improve co-ordination and concentration. Using Ribbons, hoops and balls for creativity and spacial awareness to dancing involving gymastic movements, such as cart-wheels, handstands and shoulder stands. There is really no end to where you can go with Dance-nastics.
SINGING
In singing we work on developing the students confidence and technique. We have exercises to improve breathing, range, tone and pitch. We then use these skills to perform many different styles from pop songs to musical theatre song. We also try to encourage the students to sing in many shows to improve performance and confidence.
We believe that all styles help to create confident, well co-ordinated individuals and that taken together all styles complement the learning and development of each other.
LATIN & BALLROOM
Latin and Ballroom has shot up in popularity recently due to the great success of programmes such as "Strictly Come Dancing". It teaches the students grace and poise and is great for encouraging our male students aswell. They learn all types of sequence and partner dancing in this lesson including Jive and Cha cha.
They learn how to dance with a partner and learn various lifts and sequences. They are encouraged to wear the correct ballroom footwear to enable them to perform the steps correctly, which they seem to thoroughly enjoy.
STRETCHING
Frogmore has encouraged stretching from the beginning as students need the flexibility to perform the movements fully in every dance genre. Stretching is essential to gain flexible, prevent injuries, improve posture and muscle tone. All of our students who attend stretching, says it helps them in every other dance class and one of our conditions for the scholarship students, is that they attend Stretching due to it significantly improving their ability to dancing.
